The Pennsylvania Department of Education will begin accepting applications for the 2018-19 Safe Schools Targeted Grant program on May 14, according to Senator Randy Vulakovich, who represents the Senate on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The application period ends on July 31.
Public and non-public schools, as well as police agencies and municipalities, are eligible to apply for the grants. The funds may be used for school resource and police officers, safety equipment, and programs/trainings.
“I urge all local schools and municipalities to apply for these funds,” said Senator Vulakovich, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee. “As a member of the Commission on Crime and Delinquency and as a former D.A.R.E. officer with the Shaler Township Police Department, I have seen the importance of having a police presence in schools. This grant program is intended to help school districts improve the safety of their hallways and classrooms to foster a healthy learning environment.”
