Allegheny Valley SD, Shaler Police Department Receive Safe School Grants

The Allegheny Valley School District and the Shaler Township Police Department were awarded state Safe School Initiative grants for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers, and to prevent and reduce violent incidents through programs and security equipment, according to Senator Randy Vulakovich.

Allegheny Valley School District was awarded a $20,000 2016-17 Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers. Allegheny Valley was also awarded a $19,911 Safe Schools Equipment Grant to secure the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff.

 Shaler Township Police Department, where Senator Vulakovich served for 27 years prior to his election to the General Assembly, was awarded a $30,000 2016-17 Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant on behalf of the Shaler Area School District for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers.

“This funding provides the Allegheny Valley School District and the Shaler Township Police Department with financial support to enhance the safety of students in these schools,” said Senator Vulakovich. “It is important that we take the appropriate and necessary steps to ensure our young people can feel safe in their classrooms and schools.”
